Sheridan studied the man before her with a cold expression that would worry the savviest poker player. He was atypical for a bounty hunter, sporting an expensive 3 piece suit on his six foot, medium build frame, clean-shaven, and steel-eyed. She knew this would not be one of the usual simple fights that generally ended up with her pursuer in the hospital or dead while she was long gone. No. This was going to be...fun.
“I don't think you look like a Cynthia,” he said with a bit of teasing in his deep, clear tone that reminded her of those sexy baritone jazz voices she liked so much. If this guy wasn't so clearly dangerous, she'd already be trying to get him into bed. “You look like a Sheridan to me.”
Her suspicions confirmed, the demonic shadows that to this point were simply waiting with her sprung to life, encircling her, infusing themselves with her, anticipating the gun before she ever saw it. With a lightning-quick leap, she was behind the bar before he could get the shot off, and with the sound, the music in the club stopped as people screamed and ran for the exits.

With a sly grin, Sheridan rolled off of him and left the bed. She'd been right about how much fun the fight itself would be, and the sex after was almost as good. With a lazy flick of her hand, the shadows gathered her strewn clothing and settled it in the bathroom as she stopped just at the door to turn back and look at the bed.
“Don't overstay your welcome, Samuel,” she said in a soft, almost tender way, giving him a playful grin. She knew he'd be gone by the end of her shower. They always were. If the fight hadn't shown them that they were out-classed, the sex was a more than satisfactory trade-off for the lost bounty and often bruised ego.
In the end, though, they meant nothing. In fact, of late, it seemed like everything was nothing. Ever since she'd gained control of the demonic entities that once enslaved her, she'd enjoyed everything her new-found freedom could afford her. She took jobs that she knew she shouldn't be able to walk away from. She partied hard. She drank too much. Her bed was rarely empty. She'd made a mint and spent it.
None of it meant anything. She'd already lost love more times than any woman should have to. She'd pushed away any meaningful friendships she'd had. She was lost in the darkness that the demons were, and she welcomed the sense of oblivion they brought. In being given control over them, she'd been influenced by them more than ever before. Why not? She no longer had to fight their control, so of course, she'd let them in. After all, they'd at least remained constant in her life when no one else would be.
Well...when Jadzia wouldn't be.

Ka Riu No Te
In slumber, Ka-Riu No Ken dreamt of its past victories and battles. It knew its purpose and felt pride in its fullfilment of its destiny, passing from the tail of the great dragon itself into the hands of warriors chosen to weild it on behalf of the great bloodlines of the past. It recalled its role in the Battle of Shigisan, the Toi invasion, and others, and it knew that it had inspired, guided, and protected each person who had been chosen to bear the title Ka Riu No Te - the hand of the great dragon Ka Riu.
No one knew of its resting place but the great dragon himself. After all, it had earned its rest, and it would surely be a tragedy if the sword were to fall into the wrong hands. Ka-Riu No Ken was meant for the hands of great warriors and kings with the strongest spirits meant for the most noble of deeds.
Soon, there was a tug on the sword, and it knew great magic was being used. It was as though there was a sudden affliction of darkness surrounding the sacred resting place, attacking its defenses, slowly wending its way inside those protective wards to forcibly steal it away. If it understood anything about its current circumstances, it would soon be in the hands of someone unworthy...someone who would bastardize its very purpose into something dark and evil.
No Ken called out frantically to Ka-Riu for assistance, and just as it was about to give up hope of the great dragon's intercedence, it felt the presence of a spirit. The spirit was strong, almost as old as the sword itself, and it was enshrouded in fire - surely a sign from Ka-Riu himself. With every ounce of its power, No Ken hurled itself toward the awakening spirit, understanding that another bearer had been chosen. A new hand of the great dragon would walk the earth again to put down the dark magic that threatened it...
[This is just a little thing I came up with as the basis for the creation of a new character. I don't really know all that much about Japanese mythos, however. I just hijacked a dragon name that fit my char concept. Like a lot of fiction out there, everything that follows has nothing to do with the real mythos or history.]

Backstory:
Angel started out as one of the best cat burglars in the world, mentored by an infamous crime lord that operated out of South Florida. He had dealings the world over in organized crime, a healthy drug smuggling trade, and many other illegal operations. Trouble started for Angel, however, when he decided he'd like to make their relationship much more serious, and she turned him down. As punishment for her rejection, he made sure the police knew of her next heist, and she was arrested while he emptied her bank accounts.
Luckily, Angel managed to get a lawyer that convinced the judge in her case that she could be rehabilitated and her talents put to use as a hero in Paragon City. Her first stop would be the Starchasers, who took custody of her, as well as responsibility for her parole. While a member of that group, she met Tom Damon, and the two hit it off immediately, becoming fast friends, working together as often as they could.
Things didn't go smoothly for Angel, however, and became intricately complicated when she caught the eye of a villain who viewed the Starchasers as a threat. Agreeing to get close to him to learn more of his plans in order to help the Starchasers, Angel fell for the villain's charms and became caught in the middle of her obligations and emotions. In the end, she narrowly avoided being sent back to the Zig for parole violations and lost faith in the very heroes she'd looked to for how to be a better person.
Now, Angel is with the Guardians of Destiny - a group that tends to look the other way when she's a little less than heroic - and her parole is over. While being a hero has its appeal, she'll likely never fit the mold, though she'll always have a bent toward doing what she sees as the right thing.

Backstory: Winter was discovered in the aftermath of a raid on one of Dr. Aeon's labs by members of Longbow sent to oversee the collection of evidence. She was huddled behind some equipment during the fighting, unsure of exactly what to do. In the days that followed, Longbow agent Lucas Trujillo discovered that Winter was the result of a genetic experimentation project that Dr. Aeon eventually declared a failure. Of the two results of the experiment, Winter was the weaker, so he dubbed her Wintry Dross and set her with the task of keeping the lab clean and acting as lab assistant when he needed an extra pair of hands.
In spite of what he considered her weaker powers, the girl herself was a sponge, becoming incredibly knowledgable about a great deal of the scientific research being done in the lab she called home. Trujillo decided to adopt her and took her home where he and his wife had their hands full trying to teach Winter the social skills she would need to be equipped with to join the hero community. They found a young hero-in-training to pair her with in the field, and the two became fast friends.
Now, Winter has developed into a full-fledged hero, working alongside her partner and fiancee Ion-Stream.
